Jesuit Wrestling battled through one of the toughest tournaments of the year at the Divisional Championships in Stockton, CA. When the dust settled, two Marauders punched their ticket to next week's Masters Championships.
For sophomore Hunter Greenfield (175 lbs.), the tournament marked his highest placement of the season — and it came at the biggest event he has entered all year.
Greenfield opened the tournament with authority, securing a first-round fall over Elijah Voight of Elk Grove in 1:24. In the quarterfinals, he controlled the pace and earned a dominant 12–3 major decision over Tracy's Elijah Cuison to advance to the semifinals.
After dropping a tough semifinal match to Del Oro's Evan Hilmen, Greenfield battled through the backside of the bracket. Despite falling in the consolation semifinal, he showed resilience and composure in the 5th-place match, edging the Delta League Champion Monterey Trail's Kaden Love in a tight 7–6 decision.
Placing 5th at the Divisional is no small accomplishment — and for Greenfield, it represents both growth and timely execution when it mattered most. His performance earns him a well-deserved spot at the Masters.
At 215 pounds, senior Owen Groves delivered one of the most impressive storylines of the tournament. Groves got his opportunity late but made the most of it. Qualifying for the Masters after entering the tournament as an alternate is a rare feat, and Groves capitalized on every opportunity presented to him.
He opened with a hard-fought 14–11 decision over Pablo Sierra of Merrill West, showing offensive firepower and grit. After a quarterfinal setback to Oak Ridge's Blake Meggers, Groves battled through the consolation rounds. He secured a forfeit victory to stay alive and, despite a loss in the next round, kept his focus heading into the 7th-place match — a win-and-you're-in situation.
With Masters qualification on the line, Groves delivered, earning a composed 5–2 decision over Lodi's Nicholas Godina to secure 7th place and advance.
For Groves, the journey from alternate to Masters qualifier highlights the unpredictable and unforgiving nature of postseason wrestling — and the importance of being ready when your name is called.
As a team, Jesuit continues to build momentum late in the season. Two athletes moving on to the Masters reflects the resilience, preparation, and competitive spirit that defined the Marauders' Divisional run.
Next stop: Masters.
