Jesuit Wrestling Dominates as Titus Kessler '28 Takes Outstanding Wrestler Honors, Owen Groves '26 Reaches Finals

Jesuit Wrestling delivered an impressive performance on December 20th, competing at two separate tournaments and coming away with championships, podium finishes, and one of the highest individual honors awarded at a high school wrestling event.

At the Arsen Battle Memorial Tournament, hosted at River City High School, Titus Kessler '28 put together a dominant run at 157 pounds that left little doubt as to who was the top wrestler in the building. Kessler went undefeated, finishing with a perfect record and capturing 1st place, while also being named Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament—an honor that recognizes overall dominance, efficiency, and quality of competition.

Kessler set the tone early, overwhelming his opening opponent from East Nicolaus and securing a fall midway through the match after building a commanding lead. He followed that performance with another decisive victory, this time against JFK–Sacramento, where he controlled every exchange and ended the match with a quick fall before the midway point. In his third bout, Kessler faced San Juan and showcased his discipline and mat awareness, earning another fall after steadily breaking his opponent down. In the championship match, he closed the tournament with authority, defeating Enterprise's Cisco Rodriguez by major decision, maintaining control from start to finish and never allowing the match to be in question.

Across four matches, Kessler demonstrated a rare combination of pace, composure, and finishing ability—scoring bonus points in every bout and showing consistency against a variety of opponents. His performance was a clear example of what the Outstanding Wrestler award represents, as he didn't simply win matches, but imposed his style throughout the entire tournament.

Jesuit also saw a strong showing at 215 pounds from Owen Groves '26, who battled his way to a 2nd-place finish at the Arsen Battle Memorial. Groves opened the day with a quick fall over Jayden Rivera of Vanden, immediately establishing momentum. He followed that with a dominant technical fall victory over Dallas Montoya of Lincoln, controlling the match from start to finish. Groves advanced to the finals, where his runner-up finish capped off an impressive and physical tournament run.

While varsity competition unfolded in West Sacramento, Jesuit continued its success at the Whitney JV Tournament. There, Colorado Schutz '28 captured 1st place, adding another championship to the program's weekend and underscoring the depth and development within the Jesuit lineup.

With standout performances across multiple weight classes and venues—highlighted by Kessler's Outstanding Wrestler honor—Jesuit Wrestling continues to build momentum as the season moves forward, showing strength, depth, and consistency at every level of competition.
