Arcadia, CA – April 11, 2025 — Jesuit High School's 4x800-meter relay squad lit up the track at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational on Friday night, delivering a national-leading performance and rewriting the meet's record books with a blistering time of 7:41.54.
Not only did the Marauders post the fastest time in the country this year, they also broke a 22-year-old Arcadia Invitational record, previously held by Long Beach Poly (2003), cementing their place among the elite in high school track history.
The relay team, composed of senior
Navin Kadel, juniors
Drake Hoferer and
Kyle Jakary, and sophomore
Lucas Alberts, executed a perfectly strategized race that saw each leg rise to the moment under the bright lights of one of the nation's premier meets.
Hoferer led off in a crowded field of 21 teams, holding his own amid tight jostling before cleanly handing off to Kadel. The senior wasted no time, charging through the pack to move Jesuit up to fourth place and into striking distance of the leaders.
From there, Jakary took over, tucking in behind the front three runners and using smart pacing to conserve energy. With 200 meters to go, the junior surged to the front, handing off to Alberts in prime position for the anchor leg.
Alberts, a rising star in his own right, ran with composure and poise, tucking in behind the leader before uncorking a stunning sprint over the final 100 meters. With the crowd on its feet, Alberts stormed down the homestretch to clinch first place, a meet record, and the fastest time in the nation this season.
