Logan Nguyen ’25 Makes History as Jesuit’s First Wrestling Section Finalist in Over a Decade

In a tournament featuring over 200 teams, Logan Nguyen '25 made history by becoming the school's first sectional finalist in over a decade—and only the third in Jesuit wrestling history. Although he finished as the runner-up, his performance throughout the Sac-Joaquin Sectionals was nothing short of extraordinary, cementing his status as one of the area's top wrestlers.

Nguyen's journey at the tournament showcased his technical mastery and explosive finishes, improving his season record to an impressive 37-4. Throughout the season, he has amassed 29 pins, 2 tech falls, and 1 major decision—earning bonus points in every match except one.

In the opening round, Nguyen kicked off his campaign with an emphatic win by fall over Levi Cook of Turlock in 1:40. He then advanced with a major decision victory over Roman Orozco of Yuba City in the second round, winning 11-1. In the quarterfinals, Nguyen secured another fall by defeating Angel Melgoza of Central Valley in 3:31.

A particularly challenging match came in the semifinal, where he faced Jeremiah Mora of Pitman, a wrestler ranked near the top 15 in the state. Nguyen ultimately recorded a fall victory in 3:43 and proved his mettle against highly ranked competition.

In the championship match, Nguyen squared off against Wes Burford of Oakdale, who is ranked 2nd in the state. Despite a valiant effort and an impressive showing throughout the tournament, Nguyen fell to a major decision loss of 10-0 in an intense and closely contested final bout.

Nguyen's historic run at the Sac-Joaquin Sectionals not only highlights his brilliance but also represents a significant milestone for the Jesuit wrestling program. His performance serves as an inspiration to his teammates and sets a high standard for excellence as the season progresses.

Adding to the momentum, Nguyen will be leaving this week to compete in the State Championship on Thursday in Bakersfield, CA, where he will look to further his impressive season. Congratulations to Nguyen for an incredible tournament and for continuing to build a legacy that Jesuit wrestling can be proud of.
