Jesuit High School Cross Country Dominates State Championship, Sets Historic Record

Marauders claim 11th CIF State Title, the most in California history, with a blazing team time that ranks fourth fastest ever across all divisions

Sacramento, CA - Jesuit High School Sacramento's Cross Country team captured the 2025 CIF State Championship on Saturday in Fresno, making a historic 11th state title for the program, the most of any boys team in California history.

Racing on the championship course at Woodward Park, Jesuit delivered one of the strongest performances in school and state history, finishing with a team time of 75:36, the third-fastest all-time in Division II. Jesuit's 2025 time places it as the fourth-fastest team of all time across all divisions, behind only Newbury Park High School, which holds the top three slots in the CIF State Championships, which began at Woodward Park in Fresno in 1987.

Jesuit's championship team was comprised of seniors Isaac Abbott, Drake Hoferer, and Kyle Jakary, along with juniors Lucas Alberts, Matthew Ogilvie, Ryan Tait and Connor Bilodeau.

"These athletes have shown incredible commitment all season, guided by our legendary Head Coach Walt Lange," shared Jesuit Athletic Director Hank Weinberger. "Their teamwork, consistency, and competitive spirit carried them to a performance we will remember for years. The State Championship is a testament to their hard work."

The Marauders posted just 52 points, securing a commanding lead over second-place Woodbridge High School, which had 133 points. Jesuit's low 52 also bested their own championship score of 72 from the 2024 state meet.

"There was no question who the fastest team of the day was," Head Coach Walt Lange said. "This race got a lot of attention. They dominated the meet, which we've never had a team do before. I've said all season long that this is the best team we've ever had."

In high school cross country, the scoring system rewards both individual excellence and team depth. Each team's first five runners earn points equal to their finishing place. The team's total score is the sum of these five positions, and the lowest cumulative score wins. Jesuit's first five finished 6th, 7th, 9th, 13th, and 17th, adding up to just 52 points, a commanding margin that underscores the team's dominance.

Next up: Nike Cross Nationals

Following their state championship victory, Jesuit will compete at Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025. The event brings together the nation's fastest high school teams. Jesuit returns to NXN after placing No. 11 at last year's championship meet.

Media Invitation: Open Practice

Jesuit Cross Country will host an open practice for media to capture b-roll, interviews, and photos ahead of departing for Oregon on Dec. 3, 2025, 3:00 - 4:15 p.m. in Marauder Stadium on the Walt Lange track.
