The Jesuit Varsity Rugby team faced a tough battle this weekend, but unlike last year's trip to San Francisco, the Marauders emerged victorious against St. Ignatius in a hard-fought match.
The game started strong for Jesuit, with the forward pack setting the tone early through powerful hits, dynamic carries, and a solid platform for the backs to attack. Captain Jack Patock '25 opened the scoring with a try, and scrumhalf Nolan O'Flaherty '26 successfully converted to give Jesuit an early lead.
St. Ignatius responded with a try of their own, tying the score and turning the game into a defensive showdown. Jesuit regained momentum with a stunning try from wing Brody Leonard, followed by a clutch conversion from flanker Max Duchene. Halftime score: Jesuit 14 - St. Ignatius 7.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading scores in an intense fight to the finish. Jesuit's front row made the difference, as hooker Josh Baleiwelagi '25 and props Duncan Broughton '26 and Tristan McLoughlin '25 each powered their way across the line for crucial tries. Despite a strong effort from the Wildcats, Jesuit held on to secure the win. Final Score: Jesuit 29 - St. Ignatius 26.
The Marauders now set their sights on their next challenge: a home game against De La Salle this Saturday, February 15.
