As the 2024–25 school year closes, Jesuit High School bids farewell to two remarkable seniors whose wrestling careers—and academic achievements—leave behind a lasting legacy. Logan Nguyen '25 and Maximilian Troppmann '25 not only rose through the ranks of California high school wrestling but also distinguished themselves in academics, the arts, and leadership. Next fall, Nguyen will attend University of California, Los Angeles and Troppmann will head to Yale University, both continuing their journeys as young Men for Others.
Logan Nguyen: The Model of Consistency and Commitment
From his first varsity match as a sophomore to his final bout at the state tournament, Nguyen proved to be one of Jesuit's most consistent and dominant wrestlers in recent memory. Closing out his senior season with a 38-6 record and an incredible 29 pins, Nguyen captured first-place titles at the Vista Eagle, Mark Fuller, and Christian Cotter tournaments, along with championship wins at league and divisional finals. He finished runner-up at the highly competitive Sac-Joaquin Masters and was ranked 17th in the state at 215 pounds.
Over the course of his high school career, Nguyen compiled an impressive career record of 96-25 with 64 pins, placing in nearly every major tournament he entered. His junior year saw a 33-9 record with 26 pins and a 7th-place finish at Masters. Even as a sophomore, he showed promise with a winning record, multiple tournament placings, and valuable postseason experience.
Outside of wrestling, Nguyen excelled as a state-level debate competitor and a prolific jazz bass player. Whether commanding a mat or captivating an audience with music, Nguyen brought poise, discipline, and artistry to everything he pursued. He'll be attending UCLA in the fall, where his next chapter promises to be just as inspiring.
Max Troppmann: From Newcomer to Valedictorian and Rising Star
Troppmann's wrestling journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Starting the sport as a junior, Troppmann climbed the ranks in just a year and a half to become one of the Sacramento region's top 175-pound wrestlers. This past season, he tallied 27 wins and earned podium finishes at several major tournaments—including 3rd at the Christian Cotter Invitational and 4th at both league and divisional championships.
But what truly sets Troppmann apart is his academic brilliance. As Jesuit High School's class valedictorian, he finished at the top of a competitive graduating class, balancing a rigorous academic course load with the daily demands of wrestling. His leadership in the classroom was matched by his curiosity outside it—he's fluent in Spanish, deeply interested in international relations, and spent a summer interning in Germany with a prestigious engineering firm.
Troppmann's path to Yale University is paved not only with accolades, but with grit, humility, and the ability to thrive under pressure. His quick rise in the wrestling world is a reflection of the same mindset that led him to the top of his class: a relentless pursuit of growth, no matter the starting point.
Together, Logan Nguyen and Max Troppmann exemplify what it means to be Jesuit athletes: fierce competitors, dedicated students, and young men of character. Their contributions have elevated Jesuit Wrestling and inspired the next generation of Marauders. We wish them the best in their next adventures.
